RE: Severe Weather Update

Dear Clute Resident:

City staff has been in constant communications with the National Weather Service and Brazoria County Office of Emergency Management regarding the potential for severe weather over the next few days.

The biggest threat at this time will be heavy rains.  The NWS is predicting widespread rain totals of 5-8 inches over the next 4-5 days with isolated areas receiving 9-12 inches.  The timing and exact location of the heaviest rain is still uncertain.

City crews have been working to clean ditches and prepare our infrastructure for the anticipated heavy rains.  At this time, we expect some residents may experience street flooding during the heaviest rains.

The potential of river flooding along the Brazos does not include Clute and we do not expect to see any problems related to the Brazos River.

If you experience street flooding or notice drainage problems, contact the City of Clute to report these issues.

The safety of our residents is our primary concern.  Please do not drive on flooded streets or into any areas that you cannot visually verify the integrity of the street.  Turn around, don’t drown.
